Stolen Mobile Finder
A resident of Visakhapatnam, Tamil Nadu, INDIA has lost not one not two but thirty mobiles.
The experience of losing so many cell phones got him thinking and he started experimenting with making devices that could track mobile thiefs.
N. V. Satyanaraian, an M. Tech and a scientist, finally managed to do something about it.
Hours of experimentation resulted in software called Stolen Mobile Finder, a unique device to track down mobile thiefs of which he now holds the patent.
This Visakhapatnam resident claims that once the software is installed, it is difficult to change the sim card of the phone. If the thief tries to change the software, the handset asks for a password and accepts whatever password the thief puts in. However, then the software starts its trick.
Rs 900 will be reduced every hour from the sim card and this will happen without the thief’s knowledge. It requires no operator help. The mobile will take care of this on its own and inform the real owner of the status of the phone, says he.
And there’s more. As soon as the theft is identified, the software transfers the entire address book to the actual owner of the phone within seconds and regularly communicates with the owner about incoming and outgoing calls.
It also uses some old fashioned psychological pressure. The software makes the mobile emit a loud alarm at odd hours even when the cell is switched off.
The incoming calls, outgoing calls and vibrator mode of the mobile is suspended and gets into the dormant mode. The thief’s voice can be picked up and his intentions can be monitored, says Satyanaraian.
Besides this mobile thief catcher, Satyanarain has another wonder up his sleeve.
He is developing a micro-windmill mobile charger, which harnesses wind energy.
The Research and Development Division of the Department of Science and Technology at the National Innovation Foundation and some venture capitalists fund his innovations.
Satyanaraian has already won a national award for his innovative inventions and is now negotiating with mobile phone makers to use his software, which he recently got patented.

Dear Hitesh and Chandrashekar,
Even though you trust me very much, please don’t reveal your mobile phone numbers in public like this. That’s always dangerous (I’ve edited your comment and replaced them with ‘X’s so no problems).
I don’t know how came two comments are placed on the same post with different mobile numbers and different names of same problem and same description. I guess it’s either one of you who’s so desperate to find the mobile that had you to post in my blog with two different names. Anyways, thinking you’re a genuine reader of The Gadget Freak, I’m answering you here.
First of all, the software that’s being discussed in this post is not yet out for commercial release. So, that won’t help you now.
But, you can do two things. One is, you can ask the Idea company to block your SIM Card. The next one is asking them to track down your mobile. For the first one, you just need to provide a letter. For the second one, you need to file a Case with local Police Station and then with their help try to locate the phone if you remember the IMEI number.
For all those who doesn’t know their IMEI Number, there is two ways of finding it. If you have the handset, type *#06# and your IMEI Number is immediately displayed. If you don’t have the handset as in your case, please find your original bill where they will mention the IMEI Number.
Thanks for commenting…
Dear Sir,
My mobile was robbed on 23/7/2007 at the CBS Stand at Nasik while entering a crowded bus at around 21.15 hrs. I will be very greatful to you. I have also filed a FIR at Sarkarwada Police Station, Nasik (Complaint No.1123/2007 dtd 24/7/2007). The details of my stolen mobile are as under….

Hi Edmund D’Silva,
First of all, please try to understand that Gadget Freak can only help people by giving answers to their questions. We can never give services like finding stolen mobiles. All we can give is the ways to find mobiles.
You’ve done the right thing by filing an FIR, but go to your service provider and then show them the FIR and ask them to trace the mobile. If the thief isn’t using your SIM card, then you should go to Nokia people to trace or just block your mobile by the IMEI number. As the police dosen’t take mobile theft seriously, it’s least chance to get back your mobile. So, at least make it unusable by the thief by blocking the IMEI number.
And lastly, I recommend not to poast as comments these kinds of personal questions which will expose you. We’ve GadgetFreak Answers just for you all. Send your questions to answers@thegadgetfreak.info and we will answer them as posts after eliminating your personal details.
Thanks…
Dear Sir / Madam,
I had lost my mobile in a crowded bus in Mumbai, Near Andheri (E) Stn. and without it, I’m in a very precarious situation right now. I came to know about your service recently and so mailed my concern to your id. The phone contains a lot of important personal and business contacts in it, which I cannot afford to lose. It was also embedded with a 512GB extended memory card of Sandisk make. I would very grateful if you can put in your best effort to retrieve my mobile. I have listed out the details below as required by you to aid the trace.
Your name : Ravi Sharma
Address : House No. P-96/4, army area, Navy Nagar, Colaba, Mumbai -400005.

While the local cops have turned a deaf ear, you are my only hope that I cling to. Please be kind enough to reply me whatever is the result of your search, though I hope to best extent, that it would be positive one.

Hi Ravi,
You’re really embarrassing me. We The Gadget Freak never mentioned that we offer any kind of stolen mobile finding service. Whoever informed you like that has been greatly misinformed. I’m really sorry, but I have to ask you to read the Post you’re commenting on before commenting on the same. This post talks about a software that can help find your stolen mobile. It never talks about any other service offerings. This software is not yet out in market (as to my knowledge). If it’s out, we will publish the software here so that you can get one and install in your future mobile and prevent it from stolen.
As of now, please follow up with your Police Case along with your Service Provider. There is simply nothing we can do to help you.
Thanks…

Dear Sir,
I lost my Nokia handset. I have filed complaint with police. I have blocked my sim. I also contacted nokia to block the handset. but Nokia people said they cannot block the handset and cannot help.
what do i do?
Thanks
Dear Paul,
Its great to see many innovative things coming up and its greater to see that u guys are making things happen………
I need to know a small thing….
My counsin went missing and all efforts to trace him went in vain…. he was carrying a mobile and i have the IMEI number ….. till now the police has not tried this avenue of tracking his cell….. as u know in our indian family we youngster are not supposed to voice when the elders are there….. so now i wish to take help of a Private detective. So i would just like to know how far this tracking down through IMI works and how long it may take….. i’m asking this cos i just wanna be sure before the PDs take the case just for a sake of hefty bill….. u know what i mean……
Regards
Dee
Dear Deepak,
I’m sorry to hear about this. Anyway, as far as I know, mobile tracking in India has not yet reached the Private Detectives. Some influential highly skilled detectives can do it with some help from internal Police personnel.
However, I strongly recommend you to aproach a Detective and find out whether they can do it. But their charges may be heavy.
Thanks…

Hi Mr Srinivasan A Paul Joseph
Can u pl let us know the answer to the query, who can help block the nokia handset with IMEI no?
For those asking constantly to help them find their lost Phones, the following is my answer:
I CAN'T FIND THE LOST PHONES. You should try the following when your mobile is lost:
1. You must ask the mobile connection provider to block your SIM Card.
2. Ask them to track down your mobile using IMEI Number.
For the first one, you just need to provide a letter or call customer care. For the second one, you need to file a Case with local Police Station and then with their help try to locate the phone if you remember the IMEI number.
For all those who doesn't know their IMEI Number, there is two ways of finding it. If you have the handset, type *#06# and your IMEI Number is immediately displayed. If you don't have the handset, please find your original bill where they will mention the IMEI Number.
